Packages for Troops

The second, third, and fourth graders in the Pascagoula Elementary IDEAS program, have teamed up with the American Legion for the “Packages for Troops” program. The students are completing the simulation “Caravans” this semester, focusing on world geography. After researching various countries where many of the packages were to be sent to U.S. soldiers, students wrote letters to local businesses asking for donations. Area businesses responded generously, so students began a fund-raising effort to pay for postage to mail the packages. Using their creativity skills to create wonderfully artistic Christmas cards, the students have filled the packages with personal messages. The students have really enjoyed being a part of the project, and the American Legion has appreciated all of their efforts.
